Mihaela Costea

     Mihaela Costea was born in Romania in August 1976 and began playing the violin from an early age. During her childhood she won several competitions, including winning a scholarship at the Specialisation High School of Music in Saluzzo (Italy) in 1993 to study the violin. In 1994 Ms. Costea graduated from the High School of Arts in Romania. From there she went on to study at the Conservatorio G. Rossinni di Pesaro in Italy under the tuition of Vadim Brodsky.

    Between 1996 and 2000 Mihaela studied with Salvatore Accardo as a soloist at the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona. During this time she took principal positions with several orchestras, including the Orchestra Filharmonia Veneta di Treviso and the Orchestra Internazionale d'Itala, with which she recorded a CD as the soloist.

    Mihaela Costea's career has developed as a key orchestral player, performing with several prominent ensembles throughout Europe. Between 2002 and 2003 Mihaela played as a soloist with the Orchestra della Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, performing Paganini's Concerto No. 2 and Beethoven's Concerto in D Major, amongst other works. After this Mihaela played as co-principal and leader of the second violins with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Between 1999 and 2005, Mihaela has also led the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini (under the baton of Lorin Maazel), and the Orchestra del Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.

    During her career, Mihaela has had the opportunity to perform alongside several world-class musicians, including Yuri Termirkanov, Itzak Perlman, Andr¨¦ Previn, Christoph Eschenbach, and Anne-Sophie Mutter.
