Robin O'Neill

    Robin O¡¯Neill is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. He has been principal bassoonist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. As a chamber musician he has been a member of London Winds (with whom he was nominated for a Grammy award) and the Gaudier Ensemble. He has recorded the whole of the core chamber music repertoire having made more than 30 CDs on labels such as Sony, Philips, Hyperion and Decca.

    In his parallel carreer as a conductor Robin O¡¯Neill is principal conductor of Orchestra Citta Aperta and music dierctor of the Motion Arts Group. He has conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa Japan. He will be returning to several of these orchestras in the coming seasons and will also conduct the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the symphony orchestras of London's Royal College and Royal Academy of Music. He has recorded on the Hyperion and Cinefonia labels.

    In his latest project with the Motion Arts Group Robin O¡¯Neill and theatre director Andrew Steggall produced an English/Arabic version of Stravinsky¡¯s Soldier¡¯s Tale with a cast of Iraqi and British actors and musicians. The Iraq Project explored the effects of war on the people of Iraq with the aim of creating an exciting piece of theatre as well as building meaningful and sustainable relations between artists from different backgrounds and cultures.
