Jean-Pierre Berry
Born in 1968 in Montargis, France,
Jean-Pierre Berry began playing the horn at age 10. At 16, he
entered the CNDM de Paris, where he studied with G: BARBOTEU.
He completed his studies [at 19], earning an unanimous first prize
in French horn performance, as well as chamber music. After the
Conservatoire de Paris, his great love for teaching brought him
to the Conservatory of Chateauroux as horn professor, where he
stayed for 7 years. In the meanwhile, he dedicated himself to
the contemporary repertoire, studying with Jens McManama (Principal
hornist of the Ensemble Intercontemporain).
An eclectic talent, Jean-Pierre
Berry is equally at home in many different mediums:
He has recorded with the jazz ensemble "Opossum Gang"
and the jazz trio "Qu'est ce qui's' passe?, as well as with
L'Ensemble Intercontemporain, L'Ensemble Itinéraire, Frankfurt's
Ensemble Modern, and L'Ensemble Opus 95, with whom he recorded
the world premiere of "à batons rompus" [JANOS KOMIVES]
which was dedicated to him.
In 1996, he decided to change
directions, winning the position of Principal Horn with the Orchestre
de Cannes. In 2000, he became Principal Solohorn of the Opera
of Nice, and in 2003 he was named Principal Horn of the Orchestre
de la Suisse Romande.
His artistic qualities and his
great technical capacity made him Laureate of the Concours Internationale
de l'Execution de la Musique in Toulon. Since then he has been
quite active as soloist with different orchestras (Mozart ,Strauss
Britten ), as well as numerous sonata recitals ( Beethoven cherubini...)
and chamber music concerts (Quintet Mozart, Beethoven.octet Schubert....).
