Michael Gieler
Michael Gieler (Viola) was born
in Eisenstadt, Austria. He is currently solo-violist in the Royal
Concertgebouw-Orchestra of Amsterdam. His musical talent was recognised
very early and he started violin lessons at the age of five. As
a teenager he was already a member of a professional string-quartett
. He studied in Vienna with M.Schnitzler and G.Hetzel and recieved
a Herbert von Karajan-Foundation scholarship to study with the
Orchestra-Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Michael Gieler was lead-violaplayer
of the Mozarteum-Orchestra in Salzburg, before joining the Royal
Concertgebouw-Orchestra in the same position. As well as making
various recordings for radio and CD he has appeared as a soloist
and in chambermusic in many countries, performing in the festivals
Wien modern, Bregenzer Festspiele, musica Strasbourg and the Biennale
of Venice. He teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and has
given masterclasses throughout Europe and in the USA.
